Historian on Lincoln and Executive Power, September 24

The Lincoln Studies Center at Knox College presents a lecture, "Lincoln and Executive Power," by Jennifer Weber, of the University of Kansas, at 4 p.m., Friday, September 24, in the Alumni Room, Old Main, Knox College, Galesburg, Illinois. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Weber studies the political, social and military history of the Civil War. She is the author of "Copperheads: The Rise and Fall of Lincoln's Opponents" and is currently working on a children's book about the battle of Gettysburg to be published by National Geographic. She received the 2005 Hay Nicolay Prize for best dissertation, presented by the Abraham Lincoln Institute and Abraham Lincoln Association for her dissertation, "The Divided States of America: Dissent in the North During the Civil War."

A graduate of Northwestern University, Weber received master's and doctoral degrees from Princeton University. She also has worked as a newspaper reporter, editor and political aide in California.

Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 45 states and 48 countries. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
