If I do well on the foreign language placement exam, can I pass out of the language requirement?
No. We use your score to recommend where you should begin your language study at Knox. The placement exam does not grant exemptions to the language requirement or award course credit.
I've never studied a foreign language, but I plan to study one at Knox. Do I need to take an exam?
No. Tell your advisor of your plans when you meet at orientation.
I have AP credit for a foreign language. Do I need to take a placement exam?
If you earned a three or higher in a foreign language, you do not need to take the Knox placement examination in that language. But if you have had work in a second language and do not have an AP score in that language, take the exam for your second language.
I'm a native speaker of another language. Do I need to take a placement exam?
If you are a native speaker of a language other than English, please contact Associate Dean of the College Lori Schroeder at firstname.lastname@example.org about receiving an exemption from the foreign language requirement at Knox. If you have additionally studied a language we teach at Knox (French, German, Spanish, Latin, or Greek), take the placement exam anyway. A score may prove invaluable in the future.
What do I do if my exam gets interrupted, computer crashes, power outage, etc.?
To resume an interrupted exam or view your score from your last attempt, fill in the blanks for first name, last name, ID number, and e-mail, exactly as before. Then press the resume button.
