The Hemingway Collection includes many rare and first editions of Hemingway's novels and also works of other writers of the Lost Generation.

F. Scott Fitzgerald, John dos Passos, Gertrude Stein, and others are represented with unique and rare editions of their books. The collection is further complemented by manuscript material including documents, correspondence, photos and memorabilia pertaining to Hemingway's life. Of particular interest is the correspondence between Hemingway and his friend James Gamble.
The collection was a gift to the college from James M. Hughes who was an accomplished scholar of rare books and historical documents having been president of Hughes and Hewes in Chicago, dealers in art and antiques.
