Kelly Lynn Hogan

Visiting Instructor

Kelly Lynn HoganGeneral Interests
"Influenced by the collaborative performances I've worked to create in the profession, I practice a teaching methodology derived from the belief that our human bodies always, already intrinsically possess a deep, mythic power to make and display meaningful artistic forms. I've found that a combination of Jacques Lecoq (work with elements in particular), Rudolf Laban (the 8 basic efforts) and Michael Chekhov (psychological impulse/gesture) movement techniques are profound practices to introduce novice, developing actors to the vocabulary and into the practice of embodying meaning-making, and subsequently, into the process of owning their experiences as creators. Simply put, the creation of an embodied life to offer up in performance is a spiritual, mystical act of trust in one's own body's capacity to hold meaning. This is the root of the philosophy I want to share as a mentor."

What Students Say
"Energy, dedication, and motivation are what the phoenix of life that we call Kelly Hogan represents. Kelly is not only an instructor but a student who learns from the people she teaches. This is the true philosophy of teaching others how to discover new things within not only their world, but within themselves. Kelly will push you to places that you never knew that you could reach. This instructor is a model for people who allow their inner being to carry them to success. You could be whatever you want to be, but just know Kelly will show you how to be a phoenix. Phoenix - a bird that burns itself on the day of death, to rise from its ashes in the freshness of youth, and live through another cycle of years. This means Kelly will teach you and learn anew from you how to be the energetic, dedicated and motivated individual in the field that you study and as a participant in life."
-D'Angelo Smith, Theatre and independent major

"Kelly is passionate about what she professes and that passion is quickly passed on to all of her students. I was lucky to be in a show that Kelly directed and not only did I learn more about theatre and acting, but as she encourages exploration of the theatre in such a gentle way, I ended up learning more about myself. Her office is always open for questions about a class, a play, or even advice. Kelly makes me, as a student, want to continuously improve and better myself. She is teacher in every sense of the word."
-Pamela Schuller, Psychology and a self-designed major in Theater, Outreach and Youth Development
