Become part of our tradition. A profound respect and appreciation for cultural diversity has always been one of the cornerstones of a liberal arts education, particularly as the liberal arts are practiced and taught at Knox. More than 7 percent of our students are from more than 44 countries from around the world, and the global perspective those students bring to the classroom is one of the defining aspects of a Knox education. If you want a top-notch education in a diverse, intellectually stimulating environment, we invite you to bring your views and your perspective, as well as your dreams and aspirations, to Knox.

How to apply
Knox is an exclusive user of the Common Application, which is used by more than 300 selective colleges across the country. You can apply online or download a paper application at Common Application Online. All applicants should complete the Common Application as well as the Common Application Supplement for Knox College.

When to apply
Knox has two application options for first-year students. The option you choose depends on how and when you want an admission decision.

  • Early Action—if you'd like the benefit of receiving an admission decision by the end of December, apply by our Early Action deadline of December 1. Early Action applicants may apply to other colleges and have until May 1 to make a final college selection. More than a third of Knox applicants choose this option.
  • Regular Decision—if you apply by our Regular Decision deadline of February 1, you will receive an admission decision by March 31.

What we consider
In order of importance, we'll consider the following information in evaluating your admission application:

  • The types and difficulty of the courses you've taken in secondary school—the more challenging and rigorous your choices, the better prepared you'll be.
  • The grades you earned in those courses—in addition to a high level of achievement we're looking for consistency in performance. (Roller coasters are exciting but you don't want your transcript to look like one!)
  • Your personal statement—this is your opportunity to tell us about yourself, and we're suckers for a good essay.
  • The recommendation of your teachers and counselors—these folks can verify your achievements and tell us how great you are.
  • Your standardized test results (such as SAT, GCE (General Certificate of Education), IGSE (International General Certification of Education), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and/or any other comparable standardized test)—if English is not your first language, you should submit the TOEFL. The minimum acceptable score is 80 on the Internet-based exam, 213 on the computer-based exam, or 550 on the paper exam. If you haven't taken the TOEFL test, we'll also accept APIEL, IELTS, or SAT II ELPT exam scores to assess your proficiency in English.
  • Evidence of your family's ability to afford the cost of a Knox education—the United States Immigration and Naturalization Service requires it. If you need help, apply for financial aid.

Financial Aid for International Students
International students must be able to demonstrate their family's ability to afford a Knox education. However, Knox does offer a limited scholarship program for international students who demonstrate financial need and strong academic abilities. The maximum award is approximately one-half of the comprehensive fee. To be considered for these awards, you must submit a Financial Aid Application for International Students and a Proof of Financial Support statement with your application for admission. The ability to afford a Knox education may be a factor in determining the admission of international students who are academically qualified but do not meet financial qualifications.

When making plans to attend Knox, your family should expect the comprehensive fee to increase by five to seven percent each year and prepare as well for potential fluctuations in currency exchange rates. For more information, see Financial Information for International Students.

Immigration Information
Most foreign nationals wishing to enter the United States are required to have a visa. Students who attend Knox College will require the F-1 Student Visa. To apply for an F-1 Visa, an I-20 is required. Students are sent I-20s with their offer of admission along with their SEVIS number.
