Bonding with your professors will undoubtedly be one of the best parts of college -- especially if you choose a small, residential college like Knox.
But what about beating your professors? ...In a friendly game of volleyball, that is.
Knox students get a chance to do just that whenever intramural volleyball teams at Knox get together for a game. If you're interested in serving up some serious (and seriously fun) competition, you can join the student team -- open to anyone on campus -- to take on the "Staff Stars," a group of Knox faculty and staff. When the intramural games get going, anything can happen -- and often does.
"The faculty and staff have a great time, as do the students -- who enjoy hitting balls at us," says Louisa Sue Hulett, Professor of Political Science and faculty-team captain. "Everyone is laughing as well as exercising."
It's a 20-plus year tradition that nets its participants not just championship t-shirts but also, a chance to get to know new people or know your professors and fellow students in a new way.
"All the intramural sports at Knox give students a great opportunity to get involved and have fun, especially for those who want to be active in something but don't plan to join a varsity sport," says Molly Braden Peterson, a junior from Knoxville, Illinois, who has been involved with IM sports for the last three years. "It also gives groups of friends something to do during a stressful week. It's a great outlet activity for everyone involved."
If you're good at volleyball, want some practice, or just enjoy having fun with your professors and peers, intramural volleyball is the sport for you.
I hold a special place for my Knox experience in my heart and owe much of my success to the growth I achieved there. I am Christopher
