Common Ground is an organization dedicated to the eradication of homophobia, heterosexism and bias from the Knox community and from the world at large. The group seeks to do this by bringing together people of all sexual orientations and gender identities—homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual, transgendered and others—who share the common interest of promoting awareness of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered concerns through educational and social activities. Common Ground prides itself on including students, faculty and staff of all sexualities and gender identities. In addition to weekly meetings, activities include - speakers,
- National Coming Out Day celebrations,
- Awareness Week,
- campus-wide dances,
- open forums
- and informal discussions.
We have sponsored a Take Back the Rights Week, which included T-shirt and poster making in the Human Rights Center, silent protest in remembrance of those killed by a hate crime, musical performances, and an all-campus barbecue. Common Ground is headquartered at the Human Rights Center, 422 S. Academy St.
