Drawing from 48 states and 40 countries, Knox's student body is a wonderful mix of cultures and backgrounds. The Center for Intercultural Life (CIL) helps to meet the needs and concerns of multicultural students, women, and international students through academic and personal counseling and by providing information on scholarships, internships, and employment opportunities. This office also assists students in presenting major campus events, such as Gay Pride Week, Black History Month, Latino Heritage Month, and the International Fair, which draws more than 2,000 visitors to the campus each year.
The Office of Student Development and Center for Intercultural Life work collectively to provide support for multicultural students, women and international students. Services include academic and personal counseling, especially during the transition to college; providing information on scholarships, internships and employment opportunities, in conjunction with other offices; and helping to inform the entire Knox community about the complexities and variety of our multicultural heritage, through speakers and special events. The Student Development staff also work closely with other campus offices to help recruit and retain students, faculty and staff of backgrounds historically under-represented in higher education.
The CIL maintains the ABLE Center for Black Culture, Casa Latina Culture Center, International House, and the Human Rights Center. These centers offer meeting spaces for organizations and sponsor programs for the campus.
Walk across the Knox College campus and you will notice a collage of cultural and ethnic backgrounds in the faces of our students. Diversity is an integral part of the Knox experience, and both students and faculty are rightly proud of it. Today, one of every five Knox students is a multicultural student or an international student.
Beyond this web of supportive offices, clubs, and informal groups is a strong tradition and a living campus culture of openness, acceptance and appreciation of difference. Mutual respect is fundamental to the "Knox way" of doing things.
