Mission Statement The Knox College Office of Campus Safety seeks to provide service, safety, and protection of persons and property within our community; to educate the community about security issues, personal safety measures and protective strategies; to provide a visible, reassuring and accessible presence; and to provide a level of service that fosters positive community relations.
Safety's Role on Campus Campus Safety is charged with ensuring federal, state and local laws, as well as College policies and procedures, are obeyed by all members of the Knox community.
Although Campus Safety Officers do not have arrest powers, the department maintains a strong working relationship with the Galesburg Police Department as well as county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The Galesburg Police and Fire Departments are located just one block north of campus at the Public Safety Building. These agencies respond promptly when the College requests their assistance. However, in all emergency and non-emergency situations, Campus Safety Officers are expected to provide all possible assistance, provided such assistance can be given without endangering the officer or others involved in the incident.
In addition to the director and staff officers, the campus safety program is supplemented by students who work as escorts. These students also provide foot patrol for residence halls, parking lots and academic buildings. Student escorts are equipped with a radio and can communicate at anytime with a Campus Safety Officer.
