The National Panhellenic Conference Creed
We, as undergraduate members, stand for good scholarship, for guarding of good health, for maintenance of fine standards, and for serving, to the best of our ability, our college community. Cooperation for furthering fraternity life, in harmony with its best possibilities, is the ideal that shall guide our fraternity activities.
We, as fraternity [members], stand for service through the development of character inspired by the close contact and deep friendship of individual fraternity and Panhellenic life. The opportunity for wide and wise human service, through mutual respect and helpfulness, is the tenet by which we strive to live.
Purpose and Mission of the National Panhellenic Council
The purpose of the National Panhellenic Conference is to promote and advance the common interest, and experience of sororities. [At Knox, the Council] achieves this through interfraternal cooperation and strong partnerships with college and representatives to support high academic and social standards for [members].
We are committed to relationships built on trust through transparency, accountability, and mutual respect. Innovation and our core values of friendship, leadership, service, knowledge, integrity, and community guide us in fulfilling our mission.

Membership means to:
- Provide lifelong value through national and international Alumnae networks, connections and friendships.
- Create, through ideals, an ever-widening circle of service beyond membership.

Recruitment
Payment
What each organization provides to its members and the Knox community is powered in part by their financial capabilities. Membership dues go to the Knox Panhellenic Council and National Panhellenic Council, your own organization, house bills, collegiate executive officer budgets, chapter events, and philanthropy events. All sororities at Knox have payment plans or scholarships for which members can apply to help make being in a sorority possible. For new members, initial dues are at their highest as they cover a member pin and initiation fees as well. Dues for each term may differ in price due to certain events that happen in each term, depending on the sorority.
Inclusivity and Stigma
We are actively striving to gain an understanding of how we can support potential new members of varying backgrounds and identities. Our goal is to build an equitable environment that is diverse and inclusive for all. Currently, we are working towards our goal by providing a value-based recruitment process, which allows potential new members to connect with current members sharing core values and genuine conversations. We understand that historically sorority life has been extremely exclusionary. Therefore, we are committed to dismantling the systems that perpetuate those beliefs. For example, we do not favor participants with sorority alumnae connections and don’t require or seek recommendations for recruitment. In the end, we understand that this process is not simple and we are consistently learning how to better our strategies and processes.

More about Knox College Panhellenic Council
Knox College Panhellenic Council meets weekly to discuss upcoming chapter events, programs, and community concerns. The council is made up of one delegate from each of our Panhellenic chapters, which together compose the Knox Panhellenic Association. The council is responsible for the selection and training of our Recruitment Counselors, planning formal recruitment, and building community among the four sororities on campus: Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Pi Beta Phi. Knox College Panhellenic Council partners with the Interfraternity Council to plan events that promote interfraternal unity.

Delta Delta Delta

Alpha Sigma Alpha
- ”I joined Alpha Sigma Alpha because their sisters were willing to take a chance on me and saw me for who I am. I was really shy when I first joined and was looking for opportunities to develop leadership skills. I was interested in having sisters but didn't feel connections coming naturally initially when going through recruitment. I was pleasantly surprised when I met my future sisters during winter of my freshman year and can remember having conversations on Japanese culture and anime with another sister, and with that the story went. Alpha Sig sisters are brilliant, funny, resilient warriors. My chapter has seen many growing pains in the first 10 years, but in all of it, they have always centered the wellbeing and happiness of their members as people first, and to be inclusive of those who may not have been seen by other groups. My sisters always did a good job of taking care of each other. Being in a smaller sorority, you have the opportunities to have your voice be heard and your ideas executed. Being mentored and supported by sisters is an amazing feeling, and that is why I choose to return (virtually!) as Theta Nu's recruitment advisor, because I believe in this chapter and its ability to challenge the notion of a traditional sorority experience, and make the Alpha Sigma Alpha experience something totally unique and genuine for their members. Pi Beta Phi
- “I would say that I didn’t realize that Pi Phi was the missing piece to my college experience. It gave me a home away from home while supporting my academic goals through sister study sessions and gave me lifelong friendships that I will cherish forever. - “It was fun and a good experience. I had nothing but good memories and met a lot of people that I would never met otherwise. I don’t think it was necessary for me to join though and I could have used that money for something else, but it’s not something I regret doing. I made great friends and I got to do a lot of cool activities that I never really would have done myself. I definitely made lifelong best friends! That being said, Greek life does have its problems so there’s pros and cons but for me the pros far outweighed the cons.” -Lynn Nguyen
- Growing up I was exposed to the benefits of Greek life. My parents went to college and joined Greek life and met through mixers and other events that their organizations held. My extended family is mostly mom’s sorority sister and my dad’s fraternity brothers. My sister later ended up going to the same school as my parents and joining the same sorority my mom had. Although I chose a different college than my family had, I knew that I wanted to join a sorority on campus. It was just a matter of finding the right fit for me. I knew I wanted to join a group that had a close family feel. Something about Pi Phi just felt like home to me from the minute I walked in the house during recruitment. After I joined, I truly began to feel those connections once I got my big and little. Even outside my Pham my future kids will have plenty of Pi Phi Aunties. It’s that sincere friendship and lifelong commitment that drew me to Pi Phi in the first place. However, it was the personal and intellectual growth that really helped me through college. It’s not enough just to have a support system, but to know that you have grown so much to be that support system for someone else is something I will always cherish.” -Hannah Hyzy
