Students walk by the Gizmo in the fall.

Chinese Club, Japanese Club, Korean Club, and aaina are all student groups that fall under the umbrella of the Asian Student Association (ASA). With Asian students being one of the largest international student populations at Knox, there is an endless amount to learn about Asian culture from other students.

Past events

  • A performance by Yellow Rage, a pair of female spoken-word poets, which challenged common mainstream misperceptions of Asians and their culture
  • A spring festival that included celebration and recognition of Asian Heritage Month, free Asian food, games, cultural performances, and karaoke
  • Traditional Japanese Taiko drum music. By way of the Japanese Club, ASA brought the group Isshin Daiko to campus, a group that performs traditional, unmetered drumming. After their performance, Knox students also tried playing the drums. Read more about Isshin Daiko on The Knox Student
  • Ohanami, the traditional celebration of spring in Japan, also sponsored by the Japanese Club. Ohanami involved students cooking traditional dishes at the Asian Cultural House for a picnic and enjoying the spring weather

Students with ASA also usually attend the annual MAASU (Midwest Asian American Student Union) conference.
