Dr. Ley David Elliette Cray, PhD (New Mexico State University | she/they) will present a lecture on the following topic:
In recent years, the topic of LGBTQIA+ Affirming Care—for adults and especially for minors—has become a subject of increasingly heated debate. In this talk, we'll examine the contours of this debate with an aim toward finding expressed and shared values among stakeholders in various positions. With these shared values identified and used as a foundation for forward movement, we'll then draw from clinical data, psychological research, philosophical analysis, and testimony rooted in lived experience to critically evaluate both arguments endorsing and arguments condemning LGBTQIA+ affirming care. We'll conclude with a discussion of candidates for best practices to call upon in situations in which deeply held personal ethical principles come into conflict with established medical recommendations.
Dr. Cray will speak for about 40 minutes, which will leave plenty of time for a robust question and answer period.
