The 1965 Knox Fifty Year Club Bulletin published a short article about the possibility of a Fifty Year Club Hall of Distinction to recognize and honor members "whose lives and career accomplishments have not, as yet, been widely publicized through Knox or Lombard sources." Several names were proposed for this award, including "Siwash Halls of Ivy!"
A name was decided upon and the Scroll of Honor Award was created. That same year, the initial eight recipients received a Scroll. The Scroll of Honor award is presented to members, including honorary members, to recognize that member's lifetime achievements in the service of their community, society, or humanity.
Knox-Lombard Fifty Year Club members and friends may submit names and biographical information for consideration. Up to three awards will be presented annually. To nominate a member for the Knox-Lombard Scroll of Honor, send the name and a brief biographical sketch to Megan Clayton, Coordinator of Activities, Knox College Campus Box K-210, Galesburg, Illinois 61401. Members of the Knox College Board of Trustees, Knox Honorary Degree recipients and those who have received the Knox College Alumni Achievement award are not eligible for the award.

As a proponent of peace and economic justice, Jane Denninger Erickson '50 has been an activist involved in the peace movement, lobbying in Washington D.C., the nuclear freeze movement, and protests against the Gulf War. In 2005, she traveled to Cuba for the Witness for Peace program, an organization which is committed to peace, justice and sustainable economies. She is also active in her church; has been a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and her local soup kitchen; and has held offices with the League of Women Voters and Nuclear Weapons Freeze Association. Jane, who was an educational studies major at Knox, returned to the classroom at the age of 63 to study and graduate with a certificate in massage therapy. She has traveled far and wide, including a trip to the source of the Amazon River and the peaks of Machu Picchu, as well as Jamaica, Israel, Jordan, England, Nicaragua, and Guatemala. Her hobbies include birding, hiking, and studying Spanish.
After a career in the field of education, Janet Drew Larsen '60 joined the Peace Corps. She currently works in Burkina Faso, West Africa, in a program focused on educating and empowering young women in this predominately Muslim country. While there, she is living with no electricity or running water in a remote village, learning two new languages, and traveling about by bicycle. One project she is working on is the use of "soap opera" type broadcasts to educate listeners about a different way of living. Prior to her retirement, Janet was a professor of psychology at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio, for 26 years, serving as department chair for the last four years. During that time she received recognition by the university for her teaching excellence and her campus leadership. In 2009, the Ohio Psychological Association bestowed upon her the Award for Academic Innovation in recognition of her "commitment to the value of psychological science and undergraduate students' active participation in it." Janet not only organized the first Ohio Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference in 1987 but also continued to contribute to the work of the Consortium for Undergraduate Psychology Research Conference. After earning her M.A. and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, Janet was a school psychologist for the Lorain (Ohio) City Schools for 11 years. One of Janet's hobbies is folk music. For 15 years, she played the hammered dulcimer in a band whose monthly performances for contra dances featured English, Irish, Scottish, and American waltzes, jigs, and reels. She also served as a contra dance caller for many years. Janet's extensive travel throughout the world, made her realize that she wanted to experience living in a different culture. She is now living her dream.
Marjorie Stuart Waters '52 spent her career teaching elementary school children in Galesburg and New Jersey. Now retired, she is a model volunteer. Marjorie is very committed to improving the lives of others by serving as a Board member for the Visiting Nurses Association and the Coalition for Human Care. She served the latter as an organizer for their clothing and resale shop. She also volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, Family Promise, and Friend to Friend. As a proponent of literacy both for adults and children, she serves as a volunteer on the Literacy Council. She has been active in PTA groups and was an active participant in raising money for school campaigns. Marjorie has served as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, was elected as one of the first two women elders of the First Presbyterian Church, and served as Bible school coordinator, Circle leader, Sunday school teacher, YMCA Board member, and Women's Service Club. Marjorie is a recipient of the Presbyterian Women's Lifetime Award. She is an active member of Pi Beta Phi Alumnae, and she is a 52 year member of PEO. She is responsible for forming a new chapter of PEO in her current city of Pinehurst, North Carolina.
