John Huston Finley Scholarships are merit-based awards of up to $2,000 per year ($8,000 over four years) for first-year students from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Candidates for these scholarships have taken challenging classes, performed well, and contributed to their schools and communities. Several Finley Scholars are selected each year on the basis of the application for admission.
Alumni of the New York Knox Club created the scholarships in honor of John Huston Finley, an 1887 graduate of Knox and president of the College from 1892 to 1899. Finley was a distinguished educator, humanitarian, and journalist who became editor-in-chief of The New York Times in the 1920s and 1930s.
Interested students should mail their applications for admission no later than February 1. A separate application is not required.
For more information, contact the Office of Admission.
Notification
Candidates are notified of their scholarship awards at the time of admission.
General Scholarship Guidelines
Scholarship candidates must be admitted to Knox and be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Scholarship recipients often qualify for additional need-based financial assistance, including grants, work-study programs, and loans. Scholarships are renewable annually as long as recipients remain in good academic standing.
