Group Excursions
The Knox Program in Buenos Aires includes compulsory educational field trips to Iguazú Falls and Patagonia. While in Iguazú Falls you will explore the region where over 270 waterfalls converge and fly on ziplines through the rain forest canopy observing wildlife and plant species native and unique to the region. A trek on Perito Moreno Glacier, whale watching, mountain climbing, and further exploration via rugged 4x4 vehicles allow you to experience first hand the unspoiled beauty of Patagonia and glimpse the culture and customs of the indigenous people. Excursions and outings are arranged by the director in Buenos Aires. All expenses are included in the cost of the program.
Small trips within the city of Buenos Aires are designed to familiarize you with grassroots organizations in Argentina. These groups include: the Madres de la Plaza de Mayo, H.I.J.O.S. (children of the disappeared), the Catalinas Sur neighborhood theater, recuperated factories, and the CEIBO recycling group. The program also hosts various speakers such as Supreme Court judges working on gender rights as well as film directors and journalists working on social justice in Argentina.
Opportunity for individual adventure
The Knox Program in Buenos Aires is unique in that there are no classes on Friday's, giving you free time to explore the endless adventure's the historic area has to offer. A frequent weekend excursion is Tigre, just a short train ride away, known for its huge flea market. Once there the best navigation is by boat, making excellent opportunities for sightseeing.
Just an hour long ferry ride across the Río de la Plata and you're in Uruguay where you'll revel in the wealth of centuries old traditions. The small and charming city of Colonia makes for a lovely day trip, with rustic colonial buildings and beaches nearby.
