Knox College students often rate their off-campus study programs as among the most influential of their college experiences. For years, students have created memorable images at study-abroad programs, including several that have won awards from the Associated Colleges of the Midwest.
Ireland

Mikah Berky captured these photos while participating in the IES Dublin, Ireland Program. Mikah speaks of The River Liffey, (above left) "The lights and liveliness of the city surrounding the ancient river captures an essence of Irish culture, expressing its juxtaposed tradition and modernity."
Below left, a photo taken by Mikah on the Irish coast.
New Zealand

While participating in the study abroad program in New Zealand, Jen Milius was able to bring home photos of The Southern Alps, left, and a bottlenose dolphin, below. In reminiscing about her trip, Jen said this of the Southern Alps: "The way each layer of color interacts with the next-from the gold fields to the rolling green hills and snowy mountains, through the blue sky and the dark bit of could-seemingly holds the landscape in a creative tension."
Costa Rica

Po Ling Pauline Chan took these photos while studying in Costa Rica. At left, a river boat trip; below is First Communion -- a 'coming of age' ceremony for girls at the local church. Po Ling had the special opportunity to be part of this event as her host mother was the girls' Communion teacher.
Italy

Ellen Kokontis captured these two photos at the program in Florence. At left, International Parade during Carnivale "captures the essence of intense color, motion, nationalism, and individuality we experienced in Florence every year in celebration of Carnivale."
Like many Knox College students, Steve Galdek is fond of the squirrels wandering around campus. His research project is enabling him to learn more about their winter-survival strategies.
A few weeks after completing an international assignment to take photos of newly arrived pandas in Scotland, Knox College instructor Michael Godsil is asked to document the delivery of two more pandas in France.
Knox College introduces KnoxReads, an online book discussion. The first selection is "Rock the Casbah: Rage and Rebellion across the Islamic World," by writer and foreign policy analyst Robin Wright, who visits Knox on February 28.
