Summer Internships and Research
This summer, Knox students are applying what they've learned in the classroom at locales around the world -- from Kenya to Barcelona, New York City to Guatemala. Through internships and research, they are gaining real-world experience, writing for major newspapers and magazines, supporting entrepreneurs, collaborating with researchers at other universities, providing medical and emotional support, and so much more. Here's what a few of them have been doing through summer internships and research:
Pudong Institute for the U.S. Economy
Allister researched health care systems in the U.S. and China during her internship at the Pudong Institute for the U.S. Economy in Shanghai, China.
Tri-Mission to France, U.S. Consulate
As a state department intern, Katie drafts press reviews and participates in ceremonies commemorating the two World Wars.
Boeing
Tiesa is responsible for providing estimates for retrofit change requests for the Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 Dreamliners.
CISPES
Samantha is interning with the Committee in Solidarity with the People of El Salvador (CISPES) on the first international literacy brigade.
As Green As It Gets
Annika is a development intern who helps obtain grants and manage microloans to support Guatemalan entrepreneurs.
Travel + Leisure magazine
Jenneke is an editorial intern at the world's leading travel magazine, where she writes blog posts and assists magazine staff with interviews and travel research.

As a Kemper arts management intern, Alyssa works in marketing, development and administration, and the box office.

Kelly is a project supervisor for a non-profit organization that builds youth leaders through collaborative community development and cross-cultural experiences throughout Latin America.

Marika is making new anhydrous compounds of iron complexes that promote green chemistry.

Laura assists with public relations for the Highlights family of publications, where she is planning and executing a new magazine launch in New York City.

Ashley is writing online news blogs for four radio stations in the Minneapolis area, where she also covers breaking entertainment news and attends exclusive recording sessions with artists.
Los Angeles Mayor's Office
As an Office of Economic and Business Policy intern, Philip organizes focus groups with small businesses and accompanies Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa at business openings.
Research: Embryo Imaging
Kelli is imaging Xenopus laevis (frog) embryos in vivo throughout development using an ultra-compact MRI and collaborating with researchers at other universities.
Pinnacle Absolute
Elicia is learning about how the economic crisis has affected the European economy at the alternative investment division of Pinnacle Absolute in Barcelona, Spain.
