Knox College Green Fee

Supporting Sustainability Projects

Green Fee
Knox established a fund for sustainability projects known as The Green Fee Fund to help students embrace sustainability by implementing their own initiatives. Drawn from student activity fees, the Fund can be used by any student to purchase services or products that directly increase the sustainability of the Knox College campus.

The Green Fee Fund was established in 2008 and collects $5 from the student activity fees of every student, each term, toward a fund amounting to approximately $15,000 per year. Applications for Green Fee Fund projects are reviewed and approved by the Student Senate Sustainability Committee. Unused funds roll over into forthcoming years.

Past projects have included funding to the International Club to purchase biodegradable dining ware for use at I-Fair, and for the printing of the I-mag on recycled paper with soy ink. Funds were also given to The Knox Student newspaper for the purchase of newspaper racks to reduce paper consumption, and to the Bike Sharing Program to purchase 15 bicycles, accessories, and tools. Facilities Services installed dual flush toilets, faucet aerators, low-flow shower heads, and drying racks with funds from the Green Fee.

Any student may apply for Green Fee funding; you don't have to be involved in KARES or an Environmental Studies major. The Green Fee money is YOUR money to be used to make sustainable changes on our campus and we want to make sure it all gets used up. Small projects, large projects, all are possible.
