The American Chemical Society
As a Student Affiliate of the American Chemical Society, the professional organization for chemists, the Chemistry Club brings opportunities to campus for a range of students. As an affiliate, an important aspect of the club is that it is run by students. Members of the club have many opportunities, including:
- preparing for successful careers in the field of chemistry
- gaining recognition in the scientific community
- networking with acclaimed chemists and other students in the field
- gaining experience working in chemistry
- beginning to decide which path to take after college
Past events
- Movie screenings
- Sponsoring recycled art competitions
- Field trips
- Chemistry demonstrations open to the community and focused on getting elementary school children interested in chemistry early in their education
- Bringing speakers to campus in conjunction with other clubs. Past speakers include:
- Wally Funk, one of the first American women to undergo astronaut testing
- Martha Ackmann, the author of a book about the "Mercury 13" program
