Asian Student Association

Chinese Club, Japanese Club, Korean Club, and AAINA are all student groups that fall under the umbrella of the Asian Student Association (ASA). With Asian students being one of the largest minority groups at Knox, there is an endless amount to learn about Asian culture from other students. ASA plans events and hosts activities for the campus to learn more about their culture. The group also works to raise awareness about Asian and Asian-American issues.

In the 2009-2010 school year, the Asian Cultural House will also return as a house on campus as a center for learning about Asian culture.

Past events

  • Yellow Rage
    • ASA brought this pair of female spoken-word poets to campus in spring of 2009. Their message is one that challenges common mainstream misperceptions of Asians and their culture.
  • A spring festival that included:
    • celebration and recognition of Asian Heritage Month
    • free Asian food
    • games
    • cultural performances
    • karaoke.
  • Traditional Japanese Taiko drum music
  • Ohanami
    • Also sponsored by the Japanese Club, the traditional celebration of spring in Japan, Ohanami, involved students cooking traditional dishes at the Asian Cultural House for a picnic and enjoying the spring weather.
Students with ASA also usually attend the annual MAASU (Midwest Asian American Student Union) conference.
