Where are Knox College health care facilities located?

Where do I go when I get sick?
In general, non-emergency situations during regular office hours while classes are in session should be referred to the Student Health Center. Nights, weekends and during break you should go directly to the off-campus facilities. Read What To Do When You Get Sick for further guidelines.

What is the cost to visit the Student Health Center?
There is no cost per visit to the student unless lab fees, x-rays, and prescriptions are required. Any additional costs are at the expense of the student, and the student's private and/or Knox supplemental insurance will be billed.

Does the Student Health Center cover all medical needs?
The Student Health Center provides basic health care to all students. Treatment for chronic or extended conditions is not covered.

Do I need health insurance to get treated at the Student Health Center?
Knox College provides health care for all students regardless of whether they purchase supplemental health insurance through the College.

What if I require lab tests to be performed?
The Student Health Center has the ability to conduct several lab procedures on-site. Lab fees are not included in the free office visit; those additional costs are the responsibility of the student.

What if I need a referral to a specialist?
The medical practitioner at the Center will be able to refer you to the appropriate specialist if further treatment is recommended.

How do I handle missed class time?
If you are going to miss any classes due to illness, you should notify your professor(s) and the Office of Student Development at 309-341-7222. If you will miss more than one day of coursework or if you will miss a test, quiz, a due date on a paper, lab report, etc., you should have the medical practitioner give you a note, which you can present to your professor(s) and the Office of Student Development. When you are well, you and your professor(s) will need to discuss the missed coursework. In some instances, it may not be possible to make up the work, such as labs, group presentations or field trips.

What if I have complaints about the Student Health Service?
The best place to register a complaint about the care you receive is with the Office of Student Development.
