Nine other REACH Fellows -- Lisa Blagg, Ed Davis, Christian Mahone, Sean O'Keeffe, Chris Legge, Rose VanGrinsven, Leslie Kang, Logan Willits, and Danny Gonshorek -- served as teaching assistants to College4Kids faculty.
In addition to working in the classroom, the REACH Fellows participated in a seminar on creativity in education, led by Knox College faculty in educational studies.
Established in 1975, Knox College4Kids is a summer academic program for gifted, high achieving, and talented local grade school students. The curriculum this year offered more than forty courses in the fine arts, humanities, social sciences, languages, science and mathematics.
Developed by the Knox College Educational Studies Department, Project REACH -- "Recruiting and Enlightening through Access to and Communication with High-need schools" -- receives funding from the United States Department of Education's Teacher Quality Enhancement Program. The grant is administered through the Associated Colleges of Illinois Center for Success in High Need Schools.
Founded in 1837, Knox is a national liberal arts college in Galesburg, Illinois, with students from 45 states and 48 countries. Knox's "Old Main" is a National Historic Landmark and the only building remaining from the 1858 Lincoln-Douglas debates.
