Turner Track

The renovated Turner TrackCompleted in the summer of 2006, Turner Track is a modern facility for intercollegiate athletics, allowing Knox to once again host home meets, including the Midwest Conference Championship. The renovation:

  • Showcases a purple track located in the heart of the Knox campus
  • Expands the track from six to eight lanes
  • Adds a steeplechase pit to the west end of the track
  • Relocates and enhances the spaces dedicated for field events, including high jump, long jump/triple jump, javelin, shot put, pole vault, and discus/hammer throw

The total cost of the project was $800,000. The College kicked off the renovation with an investment of $300,000. To recognize Coach Harold Turner, whose teams won four Midwest Conference Championships (track and field-1952; swimming-1957; football-1939 and 1950), Robert J. "Sam" Malley '47 and Leroy Lutz '47 spearheaded an effort to raise $200,000 to name the newly renovated outdoor track in "Coach" Turner's honor. Alumni gifts and pledges of $300,000 raised the final balance to fully fund the project.
