2007-08 Awards Awards

Fall Awards

Arvid P. Zetterberg, Jr. Award for Men and Women
Given to the student-athlete who, during his and her first year, exemplified the highest qualities of character, scholarship and interest in sports. The Zetterberg Award was started in 1946 by the parents of Arvid Zetterberg to honor their son who lost his life in World War II. Although Arvid Zetterberg did not attend Knox College, he was born in Galesburg where his family resided for a number of years.

2007 WinnersSam Magnuson (baseball - sophomore - Altona, Illinois/ROWVA High School) and Ashton Heath (golf - sophomore - Maryville, Illinois/Nerinx Hall High School)

K-Club Award for Men and Women
Conferred on the male and female student-athlete who, during their sophomore year, maintained an outstanding academic record, lettered in two sports and are selected by the Athletics Department staff as contributing most significantly to the athletics program. The K-Club Award was started in 1965 by the K-Club, which was comprised of those athletes were were awarded "K" letters during their Knox careers.

2007 WinnersKevin Malone (football, baseball - junior - Bushnell, Illinois/Bushnell -Prairie City High School) and Jaclyn Anderson (volleyball, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field - junior - Morton, Illinois/Morton High School)

Moller Cup
Awarded to the female student-athlete who, during her junior year, achieved the highest scholastic average while earning letters in two sports. The Moller Cup Award was established in 1975 by the classmates of Glenn Moller. Mr. Moller lost his life in Vietnam in 1969.

2007 WinnerLeah Heister (soccer, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field - senior - Bristol, Connecticut/Bristol Eastern High School)

Hunter Trophy
Awarded to the male student-athlete who, during his junior year, achieved the highest scholastic average while earning letters in two sports. The Hunter Trophy was established in 1920 in honor of Dr. George W. Hunter, who was a Professor of Biology at Knox from 1921-1926.

Spring Awards

Dean S. Trevor Award for Men and Women
Awarded to the senior male and female student-athletes who exemplify the traits of Dean Trevor. Those include competitive excellence, integrity, honesty, and commitment to scholarship.

2008 Winners - Greg Leibach (wrestling, baseball - senior - St. Louis, Missouri/University High School) and Leah Heister (soccer, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field - senior - Bristol, Connecticut/Bristol Eastern High School)

J.W. Hilding Prize
Awarded to the senior male student-athlete with the most outstanding career in intercollegiate athletics.

2008 Winner - Jaran Rutledge (football, wrestling - senior - Mundelein, Illinois/Carmel High School)

Evelyn Bielfeldt Award
Awarded to the senior female student-athlete with the most outstanding career in intercollegiate athletics.

2008 Winner - Leah Heister (soccer, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field - senior - Bristol, Connecticut/Bristol Eastern High School)

Harley Knosher Country Insurance and Financial Services Male and Female Athletes of the Year
Awarded to the outstanding male and female student-athletes of the year.

2008 Winners - Jaran Rutledge (football, wrestling - senior - Mundelein, Illinois/Carmel High School) and Katie Dura (softball - senior - Edwards, Illinois/Brimfield High School)

Cleaveland Bridgman Award
Awarded to the male student-athlete selected as the "outstanding performer in an individual sport" in a given year.

2008 Winner - Jaran Rutledge (wrestling - senior - Mundelein, Illinois/Carmel High School)

Michel Loomis Award
Awarded to the female student-athlete selected as the "outstanding performer in an individual sport" in a given year.

2008 Winner - Pam Bell (indoor track & field, outdoor track & field - senior - St. Louis, Missouri/Crossroads High School)

Sandburg Mental Toughness Award
Awarded to the senior student-athlete who is judged to have dealt most effectively with adversity during his or her Knox career.

2008 Winner - Greg Leibach (wrestling, baseball - senior - St. Louis, Missouri/University High School)

David Robinson Fan of the Year Award
Awarded to the person or persons deemed to have given Knox teams the most sincere and comprehensive support during any given year.

2008 Winner - Mark Shroyer (Assistant Professor of Physics at Knox College)

David Agar Award
Awarded to the person or persons with the most outstanding contributions to athletics in a non-competitive capacity.
