Matt Goedeke Named to All-Conference Men’s Basketball Team

Goedeke Earns honorable mention after leading Knox in points and blocked shots

March 04, 2009

Matt Goedeke has been named to the All-Midwest Conference Men's Basketball team. Goedeke earned honorable mention honors after an impressive sophomore season in which he led or was among the top three on the team in almost every statistical category.

A sophomore forward from Yates City, Illinois (Farmington High School), Goedeke started 17 games and led the Prairie Fire with 13.4 points per game, which ranked him 12th in the Midwest conference for points per game.

Goedeke also finished first on the team, and seventh in the Midwest conference, with 15 blocked shots, and was first on the team in free throws made and attempted, a testament to the physical drive-and-score basketball that Goedeke plays. His free throw percentage of .762 was good enough for 12th in the conference, all the more impressive because Goedeke is one of the lone big men on that list.

In all Goedeke finished second on the Prairie Fire in assists, second in rebounds per game with 5.5, and third on the team in minutes played.

"We asked Matt to raise his level of play last spring and I think he did just that," said Coach Rob Purlee. "Now Matt has to make a choice; Does he want to be a good player or a great player."
