Men's Golf
May 4-6 — Midwest Conference Championship — First — Results
The men’s golf team won the Midwest Conference Championship with a three-day total of 931, 13 strokes better than second place Monmouth College. Senior Mack Foster (76+72+76=224) ended his Prairie Fire career with the individual title beating Lawrence’s Joe Loehnis in a playoff. Junior Ryan Meier (74+77+78=229) finished in third place while John Hawkinson (sixth, 82+71+84=237), David Marquardt (19th, 85+83+78=246), and Kevin Conte (tied 20th, 82+82+84=248) all captured top 20 finishes. The championship marks the 28th total in the programs storied history including 19 of the last 25.
April 29-30 — Midwest Conference South Division Tournament — First
The Knox College men’s golf team won the Midwest Conference South Division Tournament with a two-day score of 610 (312-298), 12 strokes better then second place Monmouth College. The Prarie Fire placed the top four finishers, led by senior Mack Foster with a four-over par 147 (72-75) followed by Ryan Meier (second-151), Kevin Conte (tie for third-156), and John Hawkinson (tie for third-156).
April 21-22 — Illinois Wesleyan Invitational — eighth (tie)
The Prairie Fire men’s golf team finished in a tie of eighth place at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational after shooting a two-day total of 612 (307-305). Senior Mack Foster led the way for Knox with a fifth place finish after shooting a two-over par 146 (72-74). Nolan Scanlon (154), John Hawkinson (154), David Marquardt (158), and Ryan Meier (162) rounded out the Prairie Fire’s scoring. Knox tied Central College and finished two strokes higher than Monmouth College.
April 20 — Knox 318, Monmouth 325 results
The Knox men’s golf team defeated Monmouth College 318-325 at the Knox-Monmouth Duals. The Prairie Fire’s Ryan Meier led all golfers with a two-over-par 74. Mack Foster finished in third place with a 79 (+7) while John Hawkinson followed closely behind with an 81 (+9).
April 15 — Monmouth College Invitational — Third place
The Knox men’s golf team finished in third place at the Monmouth College Spring Invitational with a team score of 301 (+17). David Marquardt paced the Prairie Fire with a 73 (+2) finishing in a tie for third place. John Hawkinson and Mack Foster both earned top ten finishes in a tie of seventh place with a 75 (+4).
April 1 — Duhawk Spring Invitational — Fifth place
The Knox men’s golf team finished in fifth place at the Duhawk Spring Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa, after shooting 304 (+16) as a team. Mack Foster finished in a tie for fifth place with a 73 (+1) to lead all Knox golfers, while Ryan Meier followed closely behind in 14th place with a 75 (+3). Nolan Scanlon (77) and John Hawkinson (79) rounded out the scoring for the Prairie Fire.
March 24-25 — Prairie Fire Classic — Tied for First Place — Results
The Knox men’s golf team tied for first place at the Prairie Fire Classic with a two-day total of 599 (+23). The Prairie Fire ended day one with an 11 stroke lead (290) and managed to secure a first place finish. Senior Mack Foster led the way for Knox with a second place finish (70-76=146) while Ryan Meier followed closely behind in third place with a 148 (75-73).
March 13-14 — Swede Spring Invitational (Salina, Kansas) — third place
The Knox College men’s golf team opened up the 2006 season with a third place finish at the Swede Spring Invitational with a two-day total of 617 (317+300). Mack Foster led the way for the Prairie Fire with a third place individual finish after shooting an 81 on the first day followed by a low round of 67 (-3) the second for a total of 148 (+7). Ryan Meier helped out the cause with a 13th place finish after shooting a two-day total of 152 (+11).
September 30-October 1 — Ryerson Fall Classic — 4th place
The men's golf team finished in fourth place at the Ryerson Fall Classic hosted by Central College with a two-day score of 622. Leading the way for the Prairie Fire was Mack Foster's fifth place finish after shooting a 151 (75-76) while Ryan Meier shot a 152, good for a tie of eighth place.
September 25 — Vike-Fire Classic
The men's golf team shot a team total of 293, five shots better than Augustana College. The Prairie Fire won the varsity match head-to-head challenge against the Vikings, but lost in match play 28-14. Medalist for the competition was Knox's David Marquardt, who shot a three under par 69. Rounding out the scoring for Knox was John Hawkinson with a 73 (+1), Mike Wood with a 74 (+2), and Ryan Meier with a 77 (+5).
September 20 — St. Francis Fall Classic — 1st place
The Knox College men's golf team kicked off their 2005 fall campaign with a bang as they finished in first place at the St. Francis Fall Invitational with a team score of 297. Leading the way for the Prairie Fire was senior Mack Foster and sophomore David Marquardt, each carded an even par 72. Junior Ryan Meier followed closely behind with a three over par 75.
