Tighe Burke, a senior from Winnetka, IL (New Trier High School) has been named Prairie Fire Performer of the Week. The senior Defensive End led the Knox defense, recording 6 total tackles, 3 of which were for loss, 2 quarterback sacks, forced a fumble and recovered another fumble in a hard fought loss to Carroll University on October 24, 2009.
Burke was constantly double teamed and questionably held all afternoon by the Carroll offensive line, yet still found a way to make plays and tackles for the Prairie Fire defense. On one defensive series in the 4th quarter, Burke could be seen racing down the Carroll running back and making a solo tackle four yards down field, then coming back later in the drive and sacking the Carroll quarterback 7 yards up field.
Coach Gibbons said that its "just typical Tighe; his motor is always running at 110 miles an hour. No matter what the situation is he's always hustling and doing all he can to keep us in the ball game."
Burke currently ranks second on the team in total tackles (53), first in tackles for loss (10.5) and sacks (3), and has two rushing touchdowns on the season.
The Prairie Fire will look to get back on track when they travel to Lake Forest, Illinois to take on the Lake Forest Foresters. The game will be played on October 31st at 1:00pm and will be web-cast on www.midwestconference.tv
