Knox Writers' Scholarships

Academically qualified students with special talent in creative, non-fiction, and critical writing are eligible for renewable scholarships up to $4,000 annually.

Applicants are evaluated on the basis of a manuscript, their academic record, and any other evidence of special ability. Manuscripts can be submitted in one (or more*) of the following categories:

  • Poetry (5-8 pages)
  • Fiction (one short story)
  • Creative non-fiction (one essay on any topic)
  • Journalism (2 articles of investigative reporting)
  • Playwriting (one-act play)
  • Critical writing (one analytical paper on literature, film or dramatic performance)

*Students may choose to submit in multiple genres. In such cases, preference will be given to manuscripts that show an even range of talent and potential in all represented genres.

Manuscripts should be representative of the applicant's best work. Manuscripts should not exceed 20 pages. Submissions will not be returned.

Your manuscript should be typed and include your name on each page. Your submission may include works previously submitted for a class or published in a newspaper or journal.
