Requirements for the Major/Minor

Requirements for the major
11 credits in the Department, including:

  • THEA 121, THEA 123, and THEA 131
  • THEA 331 or THEA 332
  • one course from THEA 372, THEA 373, THEA 374
  • one course from THEA 375, THEA 376, THEA 377, THEA 378
  • three additional production electives of which one must be at the 300-level. One credit may be dance.
  • two additional elective courses at the 300-level, at least one of which must be in theory (GERM 328, RUSS 311, or SPAN 311 may be used)

For the purpose of defining major requirements, courses are designated as either production or theory courses. The following symbols are used:

TP: theatre production course; TT: theatre theory course.

Courses not designated by a symbol do not count toward the major. DANC 141, DANC 241, DANC 341 and DANC 343 count as theatre production courses.

Requirements for the minor in Dramatic Literature and History
5 credits as follows:

  • THEA 123
  • THEA 331 or THEA 332
  • One credit from THEA 372, THEA 373, or THEA 374
  • One credit from THEA 375, THEA 376, THEA 377, or THEA 378
  • One additional credit from THEA 240, THEA 331, THEA 332, THEA 372, THEA 373, THEA 374, THEA 375, THEA 376, THEA 377, or THEA 378

Requirements for the minor in Performance
5 credits as follows:

  • THEA 121, THEA 123, and THEA 131
  • THEA 232 or THEA 233
  • THEA 325 or THEA 334


Requirements for the minor in Directing
5 credits as follows:

  • THEA 121, THEA 123, THEA 131, and THEA 334
  • THEA 350-- A special project either Practical or Theoretical to be determined by the department


Requirements for the minor in Design and Technology
5 credits as follows:

  • THEA 121, THEA 123, THEA 131
  • Two courses from THEA 221, THEA 322, THEA 323, THEA 324, THEA 330

Requirements for the minor in Playwriting
5 credits as follows:

  • THEA 123, 131
  • THEA 209
  • THEA 309
  • THEA 350 - an independent study approved by the department

Knox Among Top Colleges for Fulbright Scholar Awards in 2009-10

Knox College is one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation for Fulbright Scholar grants awarded to faculty during 2009-2010. Karen Kampwirth is studying feminism and politics at the University of Buenos Aires, and Jeremy Day O'Connell is conducting musicology and linguistics research at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Music Concerts and Recitals

The Knox-Sandburg Community Concert Band, Knox Wind Ensemble, and individual music students perform in concert and recital, November 13 through 17 at Knox College.

Knox College Jazz Ensemble November 7

The Knox Jazz Ensemble's Fall Concert will include works featuring arranger Yumi Kusunoki, vocalist Devan Cameron and clarinetist Michael Yu.
