Direct Admission Program with Simon School of Business
Knox College students can now gain admission to a top-tier business school directly after completion of their Knox degree. Knox has entered into a new partnership with the prestigious University of Rochester Simon School of Business in which highly qualified Knox juniors and seniors can apply for an M.B.A. through the Direct Admission program.
Today, most top business schools require students to gain work experience after completion of their bachelor’s degree and before applying to business school. The average candidate works for 4-6 year prior to gaining admission to an M.B.A. program. The Direct Admission program selects students as early as the end of their junior year at Knox. Students who are selected must show strong leadership potential and academic preparation—regardless of their major—and complete a business-related internship or work experience to prepare them for the rigors of the M.B.A. program.
Students who are granted Direct Admission will receive a minimum $5,000 per year merit scholarship, and highly qualified students could receive up to $30,000 per year in merit scholarship. Applicants to the Direct Admission program do not need to take the GMAT to receive admission but will need to do so to receive scholarship consideration beyond the minimum level offered.
Internships
An integral part of pursuing a minor in business and management at Knox is conducting an internship. The vast majority of business and management students conduct internships at a business or other agency that interests them, usually between sophomore and junior year. Knox’s Center for Career and Pre-Professional Development specializes in helping you find one that best matches your goals and interests.
Internships are part of the “experiential learning” component to a Knox education. They can be taken for credit or as an independent study.

Off-campus study
What could be a better way to get a jump start on a career in international business than to study overseas? Knox students are encouraged to expand their horizons and explore another culture through off-campus study.
While any of the more than 30 off-campus study programs available allow for valuable life-changing experiences, programs of particular interest to Knox business and management students have recently included:
London Semester, which offers options in international business, international relations, and the humanities. The international business program concentrates on business issues related to the EC, European business law, international marketing and international finance.
Denmark’s International Study Program, which offers a wide variety of courses in the humanities and social sciences, as well as marine and arctic biology, all taught by University of Copenhagen faculty.
Washington Semester, which offers you the opportunity to study government in action on Capitol Hill and conduct an internship with a governmental agency.
Kemper Scholars Program
The Kemper Scholars Program offers outstanding Knox students scholarships and paid summer internships provided by the James S. Kemper Foundation. This highly competitive program selects about 60 undergraduate students from just 18 colleges and universities annually. Criteria include academic performance, especially in mathematics, and a strong interest in a career in business. The program provides each Kemper Scholar with three annual scholarships and three paid summer internships at Kemper offices nationwide.
College Honors
Business and Management students who complete an Honors project receive excellent preparation for graduate school—in practicing time management and writing and researching on a long-term project—as well as for a career in business. One in seven seniors participates in this yearlong, in-depth independent research program. It culminates in a major thesis or creative portfolio that is presented to and defended before an honors committee that includes Knox faculty and a specialist from outside the College.
Business Club
Knox’s new Business Club gives students interested in business—any students, not just those pursuing a minor in business and management—a chance to enhance their educational experiences outside the classroom. Recent club activities have included organizing efforts to bring speakers to campus, including money laundering-expert Max Tappeiner ’99, and John Marchica ’88, of FWI, Inc., an award-winning entrepreneur and author of a new book on business ethics.

QuickStart Language Sequence
Knox’s QuickStart Language program provides an excellent opportunity for business and management students to gain experience in learning about another culture and communicating on another level, and the skills needed of new professionals who will be working with foreign peers—an exceptional experience for students interested in international business. After just ten weeks in class as a QuickStart student, you’ll take a two-week trip to Europe or South America, where you’ll be expected to function independently from day one.
Knox College is one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation for Fulbright Scholar grants awarded to faculty during 2009-2010.
