Being sustainable requires us to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future humans and other species to meet their own needs. By fostering a culture of sustainability, we at Knox accept our responsibility to configure our educational programs, institutional and social structures, and economic actions to preserve the ecosystems of the Earth.
In October 2007, the Strategic Plan for Knox College was amended to include sustainability objectives with the support of the Knox College Board of Trustees. The following year President Roger Taylor appointed a Sustainability Task Force to improve awareness of environmental issues on campus and to help facilitate new and ongoing initiatives to improve the College's operations. The Green Fee Fund was established to assist students in creating their own environmental initiatives.
