The Office of Sustainability was created in 2012 when Knox College hired its first sustainability coordinator. Since then, we have taken the initiatives started by students and a group of dedicated supporters to institutionalize sustainability efforts on campus. We provide support and guidance on matters related to environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The office supports, encourages, markets, and advocates for sustainability across all departments and at all levels of the Knox community.

Managed by the director of sustainability initiatives with the support of the campus as a living lab coordinator and a dedicated team of student employees, we are behind the efforts to reduce waste and manage it as a resource, reduce our energy consumption, grow local food, share resources, and advocate for all the work done by student, staff, and faculty to support sustainability and resilient practices.

The Office of Sustainability is open to students, staff, and faculty. We are here to help you in making the most socially and environmentally responsible choice in what you do. Come to us early on in a project and we'd be happy to work with you to research and explore sustainable options and collaborate on ways to implement new ideas. And, if you are proud of your research or efforts that make our world more sustainable—let us know!
