The Knox College Board of Trustees recently elected Vela Lu ’18 to serve a four-year alumni trustee term beginning in July 2022. Lu was nominated to serve on the Knox Board of Trustees by her fellow alumni. 

A bilingual case manager and psychotherapist based in New York City, Lu came to Knox as an international student from China and received her bachelor’s degree in experimental psychology in 2018. She subsequently earned a master’s degree in psychology from the Teachers College at Columbia University in 2021. 

“Like many other international students, I came to the United States with a dream of building a life of my own,” said Lu. “Knox College offered so much more than helping me find my professional interest; it also encouraged me to understand who I am as a person. Now, I am ready to take on more responsibilities to let other students have a college experience that is as memorable as mine.”

“We are excited to have Vela join the Board,” said Tony Etz ’83, chair of the Knox College Board of Trustees. “The appreciation she has for her Knox education, experiences, and relationships that have shaped her life and career, and her expertise as a mental health practitioner make her an ideal candidate for our Board. We look forward to Vela contributing her knowledge and perspective to Knox as a member of our Board in the coming years. I’m looking forward to her joining us in person on campus in October for the fall meeting of the Knox Board of Trustees.”
