College is an exciting time in your life, and it can be quite a challenge. To help you through the rough spots, improve your study skills, and make the most of your life on campus, Knox provides a wide variety of campus offices, special centers, and services. We'll help you take care of your basic needs so you can focus your energy on learning. Knox provides a range of support services to students through three main avenues:

  • The Office of Student Development oversees programs and resources for residential and campus life;
  • Educational Centers offer academic and co-curricular programs to enhance classroom studies;
  • Cultural Centers provide focused resources for multicultural and international students and expand the horizons of all students.

That support begins before your very first day on campus, and continues throughout your time at Knox.

Getting Started

New Student Orientation is your introduction to living and learning at Knox. You'll learn about academic programs and activities; get the lowdown on transportation, money and computer services; and meet members of the faculty and administration. Special components are designed especially for international, multicultural, and non-traditional students.

Academic Support

Need help with a term paper? Advice for juggling all your class work? The Center for Teaching and Learning offers one-on-one tutoring and peer instruction in all subject areas, with a particular focus on math, research and writing, as well as study skills and time management. Need supplies? The Knox Bookstore carries all the texts and supplies you'll need for your classes, as well as toiletries, stationery, gifts and souvenirs.

Student Advising

At Knox you'll find a variety of formal and informal resources to help you create a personal education plan, and get valuable advice directly from your professors over the phone or over coffee at the Gizmo. International students can get help with everything from visa questions to issues of cultural adjustment and language.

Intercultural Life

Drawn from 48 states and 51 countries, Knox's student body is a wonderful mix of cultures and backgrounds. The Center for Intercultural Life helps to meet the needs and concerns of students of color, women, and international students, and provides venues for exploring and understanding different cultures.

Community Service

Want to volunteer at a local charity? Got an idea for raising money for your favorite cause? The Center for Community Service coordinates and supports all student volunteer activities, helping many Knox students volunteer directly in the Galesburg community—and beyond—in a number of roles.

Technology and Telecommunication

At Knox you'll have access to a campus-wide, wireless network that links all academic buildings and student residences and campus green spaces, providing students with free Internet access, e-mail, and network storage accounts. You can access the central library catalog, online coursework, printers, and software packages for use in your studies.

Health and Counseling

Provides basic health care for all students during regular terms, and coordinates with off-campus providers for night and weekend care. Students can also get counseling support and access workshops on dealing with stress management, relaxation, anxiety, depression, and assertiveness.

Fitness

The Knox campus features a state-of-the-art fitness facility offering a complete selection of cardio and weight-training equipment. Want to stretch those muscles further? Shoot some hoops at the Memorial Gymnasium, take a run indoors on the T. Fleming Fieldhouse, or outdoors on Turner Track. Play tennis, golf, soccer, or team up with any of a number of intramural or club activities.

Safety and Security

The Office of Campus Safety is committed to maintaining both the safety of the campus community and empowering you in your own sense of security. From after-hours escorts to getting into your room if you've lost your key, to Safe Whistle and self-defense classes, we'll help keep your peace of mind.

Career Planning

The Bastian Family Center for Career Success helps students and alumni explore their interests and skills through internships, self-assessment and counseling, job postings, job fairs, and even mock interviews.
